SPAT

STRATEGIC PLANNING ASSISTANCE TEAM

What Is SPAT

A joint initiative of FCE and the Office of Catholic Education that helps schools stabilize enrollment, strengthen finances, and plan for sustainable futures.

How It Works

SPAT teams meet regularly to review finances, enrollment, and strategic goals, with subcommittees driving progress between meetings.

Why It Matters

SPAT aligns mission, management, and money, reducing financial strain on parishes, strengthening leadership collaboration, and setting schools on a stable path.

      Testimonials

“While pastors have many tools for evangelization, I’ve found nothing more effective than a strong parish Catholic school for handing on the faith. In many ways, our schools are the lifeblood of parish life. We often joke that if you’re not struggling to run a school, you’re probably not doing it right! It can feel at times like we’re swimming against the cultural currents of our day. But the good news is—we don’t have to swim alone. The SPAT program has been an enormous help to our schools here in Port Richmond. I’m blessed to serve a parish with three schools, and each one benefits from the guidance, support, and encouragement of a dedicated SPAT team.

Thanks to their steady assistance—and the leadership of Jerry Parsons—our schools are not only fulfilling their mission but also remaining financially sustainable. If your parish hasn’t yet taken advantage of the SPAT program, I would strongly encourage you to do so. It’s one of the best partnerships we’ve made, and it’s made all the difference.”

~Father Jim Olson, Pastor of St. John Paul II Parish

“When we first joined the SPAT program, I was not sure what we could be doing better for our school.  SPAT has given us the opportunity to look at our school and how our school is run in a very objective way and truthfully see, with the help of the many professionals who engage with us, the ways that our school might reach even greater levels of proficiency and ways to help our school community and our parish community to work together to bring about positive results.  SPAT has been a very positive and wonderful experience and we have gained many useful tools to assist us in our day to day living out of our care for Saint Joseph School and Parish.”

~ Fr. Steve Leva, Pastor St. Joseph Downingtown

What Does A Child Need To Thrive?

Every day in Catholic schools across the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, children discover who they are becoming. They learn kindness, courage, curiosity, and a sense of purpose. They encounter teachers who know them, believe in them, and nurture their gifts.

      Our Mission

We promote and support the growth, vitality, and sustainability of Catholic elementary schools in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia so every child can access an education that forms both hearts and minds.
